Hungarian National Day
HUNGARY - Budapest
The Danube River becomes the star of the show to celebrate the Ungarian National Day.
The Hungarian National Day in Budapest represents the main event allover the nation. It is celebrated together with its patron St. Stephen and has its highest climax on August 20th in the night, when a great fireworks display takes place. For the first time in the history of this feast, the river Danube, which divides the town in two parts, played the main role in this important show.
In the part of the river between Elizabeth Bridge and Chain Bridge 30 floats were placed creating a pyrotechnic front of 1 kilometer, additional choreographies were displayed on both bridges and on the citadel dominating Budapest. The music was specifically composed and produced for this occasion by the best Hungarian artists. One and a half million spectators attended live this event, while the main state television telecasted live the whole display.
